Aircraft Fuel Sampling Procedure

Aircraft Fuel Sampling Procedure

It consists of a two piece capsule containing a greyish white water-sensitive chemical and a clear glass sampling tube of 100 rnl capacity.

Draw 100ml. fuel into glass sampling tube, making sure tube is clean and dry. Check no discoloration of capsule. Empty contents of one capsule in sample, close tube with stopper and shake sample for 5/10 seconds. Stand sample for 1-2 minutes. Assess sample as follows when powder settles as:

  • White, light grey or dusty grey precipitate: sample dry.
  • Faint pink precipitate: Moisture 10-15 PPM or more.
  • Pink colour is more noticeable with the increase of aqueous dispersion in the fuel, prominent upwards of 15 PPM, and bright pink at 30 PPM.
Transfer of capsule contents into fuel sample must be quick. Carry out sampling preferably under canopy.
